Happy Tails 2009

My name is Miss Daisy and I’m a 3 ½ pound little dynamo. I spent my first 3 years alone since my previous person traveled so much, and since I was an only Chi I didn’t have anyone to keep me company. My previous person turned me over to CRGA because of this even though I was trying to be a good girl.

Since I’ve joined my new family I’m doing GREAT and life is WAY BETTER! I’m out of the crate and get to sleep at night in the big people’s bed. I have my big sister Scottish Terrier Sadie Lynn, my new Chi brother Mr. Migs and younger Chi sister Mi Mee to play and run around with. If “pack leader” is the one that everyone follows around then that’s me!

I’ve been going to work with my new mom and dad and am working on tuning up my social skills. It’s so different getting to dress up in cute outfits and go out and meet new people. I think I’m liking that. My mom says that when I’m ready I can go out in the community even more and be part of CRGA’s new Chi Hope Chest fund raising project. I plan to volunteer as a Chi Hope Chest “Ambassadorable” to raise money to help other Chis who are like me find their forever homes.

So thank you CRGA for all the hard work that you do and for helping me find my new forever home. Life is now “Sweet as a Daisy!”

Claire with Susan

Claire was in deplorable condition upon intake with malnourishment, a skin infection, teeth abcesses, and heartworms. We nursed her back to health for over six months and she is now thriving in her new home! Without support from the public, we would not be able to rescue dogs like Claire and continue our good work in the community.

Migsy (right) with MiMi

Mr. Migs is enjoying his first beautiful Easter morning at his new forever home. He has settled right in and is enjoying being with his new sisters Scottie dog, Sadie Lynn Harris, and Chi mix, Mi Mee, pictured left in her Easter dress. The girls think Mr. Migs is so handsome he doesn’t need a dress…Oops…they mean suit! J We are so grateful for the hard work and dedication of the Chihuahua Rescue of GA volunteers who are bringing hope and homes to special little wee ones like Mr. Migs.” - Tim, Karen, Sadie Lynn and Mi Mee

Hi Jane,

Thanks for the email and sorry it took so long to reply. Our new little rescue Charlie is settling in quite well and things are as expected with a new dog. Things are really busy this week so I am pressed for time but I may want to pick another chihuahua persons brain about some house training issues when I get a free minute. Thanks for the follow up. Bronwyn

Nicky in his new home (right)

We are doing really well. House Training is going well – no accidents in about a week. No more growling or biting family members (still will have to work with him a bit with others). Nacho still isn’t particularly happy about the new addition, but he’ll have to deal with it. I think his new nickname is “lardo” but I think we’re just going to keep Nicky as his name. He sat in my lap almost 2 hours today while I was watching the NASCAR race. I always enjoy the dogs when they just want to “hang out with me.” In short, he’s made himself right at home and so I expect he’s here for good J. Take care - Rick

Hi Jane- Tigger is doing great. We introduced him to our Golden Retreiver on Sunday and they did fine. Lisa mentioned that she also had a golden, so Tigger must have been used to being around a bigger dog. He never gave the cats a second glance. Yesterday we introduced him to my other chi, Niblet. Tigger seemed very excited and immediately started the butt-sniffing' hello greeting. Niblet growled a little, but I corrected him and after a few minutes, they were walking circles around each other - nose to tail. Niblet only weighs about 5 lbs, so Tigger wasn't very treatened, I'm sure. He loves his walks and I take him out walking 3 times a day. He spends a little time in the yard and took a little sunbath. He is such a character. I told my family I would love to have a 'herd' of chihuahua's - haha. they are just wonderful little creatures. So loving and commical and smart. OH - we are all getting kisses from Tigger already, so I think he approves of us! Thanks so much for checking in with me. As soon as my daughter shows me how to download my camera onto the computer, I'll send you some photos of the family meet-and-greet. We are so happy to have Tigger in our family. Talk with you soon. Susan Allen

Hi

Quick update on Tigger - newly named Chippy. He is doing incredibly well. Gets along great with ALL the other critters. What a little clown he can be! We're teaching him how to play and fetch. He's almost learned how to "sit", however "come" still eludes him - haha. I may take him to some obediance classes if we can't get that one down. Would it be possible to get a copy of whatever medical records you have on him? My vet said it would be helpful to keep that in his chart (she liked him, too).

Thanks so much. Susan Allen

"Diva" now Gracie

Gracie continues to adjust well. She consistently wags her tail when I approach her...and she's exploring her environment a little more now. She eats IMMEDIATELY when I set her food down. She's actually chewing on some of Lucky's toys tonight! She's still having a really hard time with both my husband and son...I guess it's the fact that they are not home with her as much...plus the fact that I am the one who feeds her!

Thanks again for caring, Lynn

Do any of your dogs have a favorite time of day? Gracie just goes crazy between 9 and 10 at night! She prances all over the house, wags her tail, and engages me with her eyes. She won't quite approach me, but she ricochets off all the walls of her bed when I approach her (sheer joy and excitement). And I actually saw her drink from the water bowl tonight.

Thanks AGAIN for caring, Lynn

"Maggie" now Lolly.

Leighann, I have a few photos I can send you of Lolly. She really is doing well. Today marks a 6 year anniversary since I lost my very first little Chiwee Gretchen to bilateral congestive heart failure (she was the one in the photo that you remarked about while you were here at my home). It is very special to me that Lolly's became officially mine at this time even though I have known since I first saw her that she was meant for me. I will attach some photos of her for you... Thank you for rescuing her and bringing her to me! I am in love with her! Andrea

The Infamous Batman

What can we say about Mr. Batman that this picture doesn't show you already! Batman was given up by his former owner due to a new baby in the house and he also was extremely sick upon intake, he was diagnosed with non-contagious Hepatitis. We nursed him back to health and he found a loving home with one of our volunteers who fostered him.

Goldie Belle

Goldie Belle found a home with one of our volunteers when she decided she couldn't live without her! She is also sister to Kisney on this page. Ooops. Can we say double failed foster home? :O) We love you Cindy!

Blinky

.

Blinky with his new mom! Blinky survived the cold winter weather on his own for at least two or three months before being found by a Good Samaritan. He was emaciated and sick, but we nursed him back to health and look at him now! :O)

Indy

Indy was rescued from a hoarding situation and had never really received the attention she deserved. She was such a sweet girl, willing to forgive and forget her past, she found a home almost immediately!

Mama Mia with Catalina

Caroline...this is Catalina Scott. Got your message. Enjoyed meeting all of your yesterday! May God bless you for you all kindness and love towards these beautiful and needy dogs. I am looking forward to receiving Mia to fill the empty spot in my life (due to the absence of my ChaCha). I know she will be a very important part of my life. Again, God bless all of you - I will see you Wednesday!...Adios. Catalina.

Carolina....that little girl has bonded to mother all ready!...a while ago she was literally draped across mother's lap, conked out...she knows where her water & food bowls are and has already jumped off the couch, trotted into the kitchen, lapped up some water and then trotted back to the sofa to let mother pick her up again!...the phone has been ringing off the hook with friends & family inquiring about the furry adoptee...will keep you updated & will send some photos as soon as i can...hope you had an uneventful trip home....hasta lluego, Reuben

Dear Jane....thank you for writing about mother and Chula (Mia)...i was just about to send Caroline a note about how the girls were doing...i will quickly tell you that they are doing great!!!....it is incredible how much they have bonded - you would think they had been together years, instead just a couple of months...later on I will set up my mom at the computer and she will write you more...thanks for your caring & interest....Reuben Porras.

Rio in her new home

Rio is jumping around like alittle pogo stick. Rio is no longer timid and is a little mischievious. I have to keep my eyes on her like a toddler. She is up to normal weight 5 pounds and 8 ounces! She was thin when we got her and needed to be built up. Dr Bonnie says she is very healthy and that her weight is right on. -- Juanita O.

Hello Jane,

Please see attached photos of Jingy. The photos are of her doing some of her favorite past times - sitting on the sofa or on Nicki's (my daughter) bed. She is so lovable.

Rudy

Hi!

Just wanted to give you an update on Rudy. He’s adjusting well to his new home. He started playing with toys yesterday and he and Weezer were chasing each other through the apartment. He’s on his way to being spoiled rotten! I’ve enclosed a picture to show you how big a baby he really is! I’ll send more as we progress. Thank you for everything!

Tommy (far right) with Cricket

Well it's only Wednesday morning and we KNOW we have the right dog for our family! He and Cricket actually play really good together - Cricket obviously has more energy but he leaves him alone when Tommy is tired. He's eating great, he hasn't seemed a bit sad, we've had no accidents in the house (that i've seen) and seems to be adjusting so much better than i thought. We left them both for the first time yesterday and left them loose in the house - yes, i know i shouldn't have but i just couldn't lock him up and leave Cricket out - nothing was torn up when we got home or anything! BUT, even i'm not ready to leave them for long periods. Tommy is already a HUGH mama's boy which suites me just fine. When we tell Cricket to "talk to us" - Tommy is now doing it without barking! He is a smart little guy and seems to be picking up Crickets tricks really well - he's even trying to crawl but he's having a tough time with that one. Keith is dehydrating chicken breast for them today, it will give them something to chew on while they get a "good for them" snack. i've attached a few pictures of them playing this morning - in one it looks like Tommy is about to take Cricket out but they are having such a good time - for the most part anyway. As we knew there are times Cricket doesn't like that he's not the center of attention but again i can't believe how well they are doing - as you told me they would. Thanks again for everything and i'll continue to send updates - you'll probably get tired of seeing pictures from me! We hope you guys have a great New Year. --Keith & Becky

Ricky

"Ricky is settling in very nicely! He has taken very well to my wife and I. Peaches our Pomeranian was jealous at first but she is slowly coming around. They will both gladly sit side by side on my lap though without any conflict. I thank you so much for giving Barbara a new baby to take care of." --Jeff

Cha Cha

We can't believe what a well-mannered little boy he is! -- The Sweigarts

Barron now Artie

"He and Colby are best friends, which is a bit surprising to me.... I thought Colby would be a bit too hyper for Artie, but it seems like they cannot leave each other's side... Its reciprocal...."

Georgia Belle now Bella

"She is a perfect fit for our family! We love her dearly and she is spoiled rotten already! Santa spent more on her than the kids! no kidding! She got a cheetah dog stroller for going places she shouldn't be, tons of clothes, leg warmers/scarf, raincoat, boots, bones, placemat/bowl the list goes on! Thank you so much and we would love to continue our friendship with you all. Happy New Year! Thank you for blessing our family with this perfect doll. I appreciate all your efforts and hard work for the dogs!" --Lori Morrow
